Charli Brissey – Artist Presentation

Charli Brissey – Artist Presentation

Charli Brissey is an interdisciplinary artist, scholar, and teacher who works choreographically with various technologies and materials. This primarily includes bodies, cameras, objects, instincts, language, and ecosystems. They are invested in movement practices to illuminate the role of the nonhuman in formation-practices of self and material environment, and turn to interspecies ecologies to challenge distinctions between nature and culture.

This presentation will address the backstory and unfolding of a short film, Canis Major, in which an artist suffering from severe writer’s block relies on the friendship of their dog to find an imaginative breakthrough. Based on many true stories, including the 1957 Russian Space Mission that sent the first canine into space, this multi-genre video-animation hybrid ruminates interspecies care and survival at the “end of the world.”
