First part of submission process – Deadline 5pm, 27th September 2019
Initial written proposals will be accepted for the commissioning programme that should include:
- An outline treatment of the project idea. Images and text that describe the concept or narrative. Locations and choreographic and filmic approaches could be added.
- The proposed creative team. This could be a choreographer and film maker, a dancer and video artist. Short biographies of the key collaborators.
The proposal need not be too detailed at this stage and should cover no more than 4 pages A4 but should give a sense of the ideas and quality of the project. To ensure fairness and rigour there will be an independent selection panel that will be formed of 3 international experts in the field to make a short list of 6 projects.
The selections will be based on the clarity of understanding of the nature of the brief to make a 1 minute work that is a hybrid of the disciplines that make screendance a unique proposition. The ability to achieve the work within the budget limits will be assessed along with technical demands of the work and its likelihood of being successful. The project teams will be looked at to assess the longer term professional development trajectory of the artists involved and the impact it could have on their ambitions.
Accessibility and diversity will be addressed in this open call and applications from under represented groups encouraged. Two induction meetings will be scheduled to help those artists interested but may need more support and explanation of what is be expected.
