International Women’s Day is on 8 March 2021 and we are asking where are the female filmmakers? We have always strived for bridging the gender gap in the screen dance world, achieving 50/50 representation from the inception of our Screen.dance festival.
We have just crunched the numbers for Screen.dance 2021 – 43 female and 27 male directors across all our competitive and non-competitive programme strands this year – this is 62% female directors of screen dance.
As our Screen.dance website grows we hope that we will continue to be a vital research tool including for female filmmakers, alongside the likes of Women Make Film resource celebrating 130 years of cinema by 183 female directors.
